I have yet to post a video of me trying another recipe... So bear with me.
Today I shall simply spotlight yet another exemplary figure for us learning homemakers!
June Cleaver
from Leave It To Beaver
As many of you know, she is the quintessential housewife. Her and her husband parent 2 sons, whose escapades are the highlight of the series. When the boys arrive home from school, June can be found in the kitchen chopping salad vegetables, basting a roast, or icing a cake. Her kitchen is immaculate. Like most TV middle class sitcom families of the era, the Cleavers eat breakfast and lunch in the kitchen while their dinners are full scale affairs in the dining room.
So what do you women think about the portrayal of June Cleaver and other housewives of the 1950's?
Is this how it should be today?
Should we emulate her behavior?
Do men of this age really want wives like June Cleaver??
I found an article about what men want... Here's the link. Do men really want wives like June Cleaver?
So, what do you think?
Hi Lindsay!! As a mom and a full-time student, I love the idea of being able to stay at home, cooking and cleaning and playing with my little girl! I think that when people bring up "domestic slavery", they forget about a crazy little thing called love :) I serve my husband and daughter because I love them, and they serve me in different ways (like by making money for the family). By the way, you have a cute blog! Hope to see you around!

Interesting post! We have a class together and coincidentally, Phil Gordon showed the class your blog. Really interesting post!
ReplyDeleteI think Utah (or any other majorly conservative state) exemplifies the desire for the "wifey type" Can cook, clean, nurture etc. Before moving here, I'd never even thought about it so much.
I'm from a suburb of Dallas, Texas where men seek out successful women. They want women who will stand on their own two feet so they know she can also make money and contribute. If she can cook or raise kids well, that's just a bonus. I think what a guy wants all depends on the area he was raised and the way his parents raised him :)
Oh my goodness thank you both so much for commenting! I had no idea anyone was reading haha. It is definitely far from polished. Simone I'm kind of embarrassed he showed it in class! Good 'ole Phil. I actually agree with both of you! Please if you have any suggestions, feel free to suggest away! Thanks ladies!
ReplyDeleteAnd to clarify... I agree with both of you the sense that there are a lot of different lifestyles people grow up in which subsequently shapes their views on marriage and what roles are entailed, but also that when a wife/mother stays home there is a reason: love. It's a noble cause. They don't do so because of "domestic slavery" as Elizabeth put it... I think there has to be some kind of balance!
